Neon Betty

Neon Betty is the bright and sequined world of Lizzy Kirkham, a newer vendor to the fair who joined in on all the fun last summer. Her company was started in late 2020 after she spent the year at home brainstorming ideas and sewing random things while watching way too much television. Her core inspiration comes from her Grandma, Betty, who taught Lizzy the ropes and built up her penchant for hand-sewing fun and personalized items.

"What began as a project has now become a business dedicated to Betty’s memory."

Lizzy has been an online seller since 2011 selling paintings, and now pillows, and had always dreamed of selling in person up until last year when she finally took the plunge. After years of only connecting with her customers on social media, she was ready to make her first face-to-face customer interaction at the Hester Street Fair. Lizzy was pleasantly surprised by the amount of genuine curiosity and admiration that she received from selling in person, also having made her first-ever in-person sales.

"My design process has always been “what do I think is unique and funky that I would personally love to have in my home.” Of course, not everyone thinks bedazzled pigeon pillows and vibrant 70s fabric is as awesome as I do! When I started to talk to people at Hester Street Fair I realized that maybe I can start to offer different things for people who might not have a need for a decorative pillow. It inspired me to offer new things during the 2023 season like framed embroidery pieces in vintage brass frames. You might not want a pigeon PILLOW but maybe you would want a framed beaded pigeon to hang on your wall with other art!"

We'll take a framed beaded pigeon anyday! Continue to keep an eye on the new Neon Betty creations over on Lizz's Instagram. You can also shop for her handmade goods through her Etsy shop.
