Out of Seam

Tajah Ellis is the one-woman show behind Out of Seam who came into our circle through the resource-center 3pts. Birthed and based in Brooklyn, New York with ancestral ties and agricultural resources coming from Belize, Central America. We're fascinated by her re/deconstruction experience of fibers and her in-depth skillset of chemically extracting from organic materials to create dyes and more for her one-of-one pieces.

WHY HESTER STREET FAIR?

While Out of Seam has been public since 2021, Tajah did not have IRL vending experience. Hester Street Fair was her first official opportunity, and Tajah was very excited to see all of the fresh faces in person. "People were extremely engaging and genuinely interested in the process, construction, and ethos behind Out of Seam."

Tajah told us that her first-day vending was so smooth, with a great reception, connections & sales too. It was especially a great introduction to a public market for her emerging business as a one-woman show. As it was OOS's first official pop-up, it was “so exciting to see all the fresh faces in person.” Tajah has a steady Instagram following and website, her only forms of online media, but nothing beats in-person interaction. People were extremely engaging and genuinely interested in her process, construction, and ethos behind Out of Seam. “Grandmas, art school kids, businessmen, and babies alike have a visual map of our clothes! It was great that the intention and execution aligned since that's all we're about :)”
